Our bees are back!

The buzzing is back at the Zollenspieker Fährhaus!

Since April 14, 2026, the buzzing and humming have returned to the Zollenspieker Fährhaus: Our honeybees have moved back into their hives and officially opened the new season. For us, this is a special moment every year – and a small celebration of nature right on the banks of the Elbe River.

We say: “Welcome back, little buzzers!”

hy our bees move away each year

Those who have known us for a while already know: Our bees are seasonal workers with foresight. Since the Zollenspieker Fährhaus is located in the Elbe’s floodplain area, we bring the bees safely to their beekeeper every autumn, where they spend the winter protected and far away from the danger of rising water levels. In spring, they return safely to us once again — a little like Hamburg’s famous Alster swans.

The professionals by our side: Place4Bees

All of this is made possible through our partnership with the Hamburg-based team at PLACE4BEES. The company was founded with the goal of promoting modern and healthy beekeeping in the city and surrounding areas, and supports us throughout the beekeeping year with professional expertise. The honey produced through this collaboration is not only good for the heart: Guests at our hotel can enjoy our homemade honey at breakfast — and anyone who would like to take a jar home can also find it in our online shop or directly on-site.

From the beehive to television

Anyone who has ever wanted to see how 80,000 bees move into their new home at the same time — NDR captured it on camera! On April 14, the Hamburg Journal visited the Zollenspieker Fährhaus live and accompanied the arrival of our little residents. It is a moment that fascinates us anew every single year — and one that truly has to be seen to be believed.
